Our summer day camp, designed for children ages 6-14, is so much more than Taekwon-do! No previous Taekwon-do experience is necessary but those with prior training at our dojang or elsewhere are welcome. Everyone will benefit. Camp is an excellent way for new students to get acquainted with Taekwon-do fundamentals, and for experienced martial artists to strengthen their skills.
Every day begins with a Taekwon-do class, with beginners learning the core movements of this Korean martial art, and more experienced students being challenged with new techniques and applications. Depending on the weather and our week's theme, the rest of the day may include indoor or outdoor team games, crafts, playground time, mental challenges, board games, and free play. No two weeks are the same.
Emphasis is placed on physical education, including conditioning, stamina, and coordination, as well as cooperation, responsibility, self-control, and other social skills. Team work is a strong theme throughout the week, but individuals are also encouraged to share their strengths.
Activities take place in our large, bright, well-ventilated space, as well as outdoors whenever possible. While the age range is large, break-out sessions allow the instructors to individually tailor drills and games for each level, and those campers with more experience will act as role models for the newer students.
MMTKD Junior Black Belts are encouraged to join us as junior counselors (regular enrollment required) and will be given minor leadership tasks. MMTKD Black Belts who are 13 years and older may apply with Master Bayless to be assistant counselors; applicants must be comfortable taking initiative and leading activities.
Feel free to call us at 216-921-KICK with any questions.
